A2 Construction is proud to be one of the 2025 recipients of the Dade Heritage Trust Annual Preservation Award for our historical reconstruction of a 1920 home in the MacFarlane Homestead Historic District in Coral Gables, Florida.
Thanks to the vision of owners Louis and Kim Duncanson and the skilled work of architect William Medellin, James Sadler from SOLO Construction Management LLC, Guillermo Rodriguez from 4 Point Construction, Alex Afanasyev from A2 Construction, and the team of shell, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC contractors, this once-deteriorated home has been meticulously brought back to life.
The team took on the complex challenge of rebuilding the home from the ground up, precisely replicating its original design from over 100 years ago — all while meeting today's modern building codes and hurricane-resistant standards. In an era where full wood-framed construction is increasingly rare in South Florida, this home stands as a unique blend of tradition and innovation. The exterior features custom-matched siding, hand-milled porch decking, specially fabricated railings and trims, and other carefully crafted historical details that honor its past. Inside, the home is thoughtfully updated for modern living, with a state-of-the-art HVAC system, a charming kitchen, and two beautiful and cozy bathrooms. It is a seamless fusion of historical character and contemporary comfort — and we are delighted to have brought it to life.
